About The Oyemwen Dress.
Purple is often thought to be a color that encapsulates the essence of the act of healing, which lent to the creative directors and I wanting to feature this color through the piece I wore for the inaugural shoot of Namaste By Jay. The creative directors, Jazzmin and Keirsten, and I searched tirelessly for nearly a month looking for the perfect dress to capture our vision. We found countless sources of inspiration, from images of celebrities and pictures of tulle dresses in a field to numerous pins on Pinterest. Through all this, we still could not find THE dress we envisioned for the shoot.
Less than ten days before the shoot, distraught and frustrated, we did not know how or where we would find what we needed. But, just when we thought all hope was lost, Keirsten found Oyemwen. Oyemwen is a one of a kind, custom ready-to-wear brand, founded by a Nigerian born designer. Aiming to “create designs that bring out the princess in everyone,” the designer, Oyemwen, strives to tap into the power of looking confident in order to feel confident. The beautiful, free-flowing, deep purple tulle dress you see featured in the shoot was designed by Oyemwen.
This dress has served its purpose with me and I am ready to pass it on to my next sister. A core pillar of Namaste By Jay is giving. Therefore, I am auctioning off the dress and using a portion of the proceeds to support the soon to be announced initiatives of Namaste by Jay and donating the remaining proceeds to Justice for Black Girls. Justice for Black Girls was created by my Spelman Sister, Brie Baker, and demands justice for Black girls in classrooms & cages. I hope that this dress can bring its next owner the pride, joy, and healing that it has brought me.
Sincerely,
Jay
